Trailer Watch: Good Time

Josh and Benny Sadie have cultivated a most intriguing career since bursting onto the scene less than ten years ago with The Pleasure of Being Robbed. That and their second feature Daddy Longlegs both played at Cannes in the Director's Fortnight section, but now they return, fresh off the success of 2014's Heaven Knows What, to enter the main competition with their latest feature Good Time, starring Robert Pattinson, Jennifer Jason Leigh, and Barkhad Abdi.

Pattinson stars as Constantine 'Connie' Nikas, who goes through hell and back to bail his brother (played by Benny Safdie) out of jail, and from the looks of the trailer, we're in for a seriously hardcore journey. Pattinson has worked with a number of interesting directors in recent years, from James Gray in The Lost City of Z to David Cronenberg in Maps to the Stars and Cosmopolis, so he certainly has had good luck in such collaborations.

While Good Time is the first time in the Safdie's filmography they've been able to secure such major talent, it surely marks a slight step from the New York independent scene they have been apart of for most of their careers. Based on the style and visuals glimpsed at in the trailer, it seems like they're only getting better, and as well, having the film distributed by A24 means it should receive an equally intriguing marketing campaign.

Good Time premieres at Cannes this week, and opens theatrically on August 11th, 2017.
