Golden Globe Nominees Announced

Golden Globe Nominees Announced

This morning, the nominations for the 74th annual Golden Globes were announced, solidifying the major contenders of the year with a ton of attention towards La La Land (10 nominations), Moonlight (6 nominations), and Manchester by the Sea (5 nominations).

A few notable shut-outs already: Michael Shannon not getting a Best Supporting Actor slot for his amazing work in Nocturnal Animals despite a nom for his co-star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Mica Levi's amazing score for Jackie also getting snubbed is somewhat bothersome.

On the surprises front, I don't think anyone predicted Jonah Hill or Ryan Reynolds to get nominated for their work in War Dogs and Deadpool for Best Actor - Musical or Comedy, though they are up against difficult competition from Ryan Gosling in La La Land. Just as well, Viggo Mortensen getting a Best Actor - Drama nod for Captain Fantastic is a surprise as the HFPA doesn't often go for indie films in their choices - tending to favour mainstream Hollywood fare and the odd foreign selection.
