Show Notes on Dream a Little Deeper: Lady and the Tramp
Lady and the Tramp is the first Walt Disney Studios production based on an original idea. Walt took inspiration for the film from one of his employees and one of his childhood hometowns - Marceline, Missouri. However, his attention was not fully on the film, as he was busy opening the Disneyland theme park and running his ABC television show by the same name, which ended up pushing back the film’s release date by a year. The production, development, and directorial teams from Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland and Peter Pan all returned to create this film. The team had learned to work without Walt’s direct leadership, and animation historians note the style and tone of the film is cohesive and uniform. The film ended up making money, but got mixed reviews from critics.
