Trailer Watch: Battle of the Sexes

The historic match between tennis players Bobby Riggs and Billie Jean King was one of the sport's most memorable events, and later this year that story will be brought to the screen in Battle of the Sexes, from directors Jonathan Dayton and Valerie Faris (Little Miss Sunshine).

Reuniting with their co-star Steve Carell in the role of Bobby Riggs, and recent Best Actress Oscar winner Emma Stone as Billie Jean King, the film looks to be an equal dose of uproarious comedy and heavy stakes drama, the kind of pairing the directing duo is known for. The chauvinistic Riggs against the pro-feminist King made for an exciting battle of genders, and based on this trailer it looks like the heart and soul of that moment in time has been captured with gravitas.

With a September release date, it's a fair bet that the film will play a couple of festivals such as Venice or TIFF before making its wide debut, and surely will be a force to be reckoned with during awards season.

Battle of the Sexes opens on September 22nd, 2017.
