Trailer Watch: Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets (Trailer #2)
Director Luc Besson makes his return to science fiction territory later this summer with Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets, adapting the popular, groundbreaking graphic novel series that inspired his own The Fifth Element (and even another franchise you've probably heard of called Star Wars).
Which is why this latest trailer for the film starring Dane DeHaan and Cara Delevingne looks so peculiar, as there are several moments lifted right from the panels of the stories, though, the tone seems to be aping other modern sci-fi series today, notably Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy.
Having said that, the film looks visually incredible and the kind of treat that will undoubtedly look grand on a big screen. I'm not entirely sold on DeHaan as a leading man (though did find his work in A Cure for Wellness to be something solid), and I'm not sure Delevingne has proven herself much either. But hey, this doesn't seem to be a movie made for high caliber acting either - it's all about action sequences and crazy out-of-this-world spectacle - and for that, this trailer delivers.
Valerian and the City of a Thousand Planets opens on July 21, 2017.
