Before Mike Mills’ one-two punch of Beginners and 20th Century Women he made his feature debut with Thumbsucker. While not entirely successful, the film shows the voice Mills would fully tap in his later work. Thanks to a stellar cast including Tilda Swinton, Lou Pucci, and Vincent D’Onofrio, and one of the more ingenious castings of Keanu Reeves as a wise orthodontist, it’s worth seeking out.
